What do family-friendly workplace practices look like in the Nordics? How do working conditions for parents and caregivers affect children’s rights? How can companies use family-friendly practices as a concrete tool to respect children’s rights?
As set out in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989), every child has the right to survival, development, protection, and participation. While States have the primary responsibility to protect these rights, they are also shaped by business activities and workplace practices. Even when companies do not work with children directly, their employment practices can significantly impact children’s lives, including through wages, parental leave, flexible working arrangements, and work–life balance policies.
The UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights affirm that all business enterprises have a responsibility to respect human rights, including children’s rights. Family-friendly workplace practices can serve as a practical entry point for companies to integrate children’s rights into their human rights due diligence processes.
The aim of this webinar is to help companies understand how workplace practices relate to children’s rights and how family-friendly policies can support the corporate responsibility to respect human rights.
